Queenslands Highest Town

A Tableland Community

At 930 metres above sea level, Ravenshoe is Queensland’s Highest Town.

It is located in the southern Tablelands, a picturesque two hours drive south-west of Cairns and one hour west of Innisfail.

This lush region enjoys stunning views and a splendid subtropical climate, naturally airconditioned by mountain breezes. It is surrounded by rolling pastures and World Heritage-listed Rainforest.

Millstream Falls National Park abuts the town, and is home to the Millstream Falls – the widest waterfall in Australia – as well as the delightful Little Millstream Falls.

A couple of minutes out of town is the famous Windy Hill wind farm. This amazing sight draws many sightseers. Almost surreal against the rolling green hills, the twenty huge 46 metre high windmill generators provide clean energy sufficient to power 3,500 homes.

From Ravenshoe, Tully Falls Road leads south past the impressive 293 metre Tully Falls at Tully Gorge to Koombooloomba Dam beyond. Koombooloomba is a fantastic lake for camping, boating, watersports and fishing.

Along Tully Falls road are trailheads for the the famous Misty Mountains walks, which provide a chance to enjoy unspoiled World Heritage rainforest and the beauty of Nature at its best.

Wildlife is abundant. The region has Australia’s greatest diversity of possums with at least thirteen species! You can learn all about the local flora and fauna from colourful displays at the local  Visitor Information Centre.

To the west the Kennedy Highway passes through Innot Hot Springs, natural mineral springs purported to have healing properties, and then to Mount Garnet before entering the vast outback of the Gulf Savannah region.]
